SEPTEMBER, 2013 -- PASTOR BOB AND JEANNE CLAYCAMP
THIS IS OUR THREE-FOLD VISION:
*Pastoring the Calvary Chapel in Exeter, Devon, England
*Poimen Ministry to UK and European Pastors and Wives
*Preparing Future British Leadership to Take the Spiritual Reins in the Coming Years
It has been several weeks since our last newsletter. Much has been happening with us and we are finally finding some time to sit down and share with you some of what has gone on. We are so thankful to the Lord for the many prayers offered up on our account. We have sensed the tremendous grace and mercy of the Lord these past nine weeks.
FAMILY LIFE
Much of our ministry centered on hosting other Christian leaders in our home. We’ve had several other believers come and stay with us for about a week at a time. This included families that are in prayer about joining us here in Exeter to help in a variety of ways. With all this hosting we are beginning to call ourselves the PB and J B&B (Pastor Bob and Jeanne)!
Jeanne has been taking her driving lessons and making some headway in assimilating the different requirements and customs of these British roads. The difficult part is that I cannot help her practice since a ‘learner’ must have someone who already has a UK drivers license with at least three years of experience. I can drive on my US license for only one year from Mar. 1, 2013, so my turn is coming up shortly.
CC EXETER
Things are settling down now and we are focusing on the coming autumn season. Amazing that we have been here six months already! We will be restarting the women’s Bible studies on Saturday mornings, the once a month Men’s breakfasts, and the Friday night dinner/Bible/discussion time with the University of Exeter students (‘Uni’ students), and the Sunday pre-setup prayer meeting. The Plymouth mid-week Bible study is doing great. We are currently in the Book of Nehemiah and making applications to the spiritual need in this city. We will be starting a Sunday evening service October 6 for the Plymouth group in an old church facility that has been offered to us. It is located just outside of the city limits.
EXETER SCHOOL OF MINISTRY FOR PASTORS
Pastor Dave Shirley (Calvary Chapel Bible College, Murrieta, CA) and I have put together a basic class schedule for a three month School of Ministry (SoM) for British men to help prepare them for future spiritual leadership and pastoring. This will run on two tracks, one for full time students, and one for married men who live close enough to make the drive into Exeter about three times a week.
We want to address three basic areas of pastoral preparation: Teaching, Training, and Tending. Some of the classes being offered are THE HISTORY OF REDEMPTION (Understanding the different covenants and dispensations that unfold from cover to cover in the Bible), THE BOOK OF ACTS: A MODEL FOR CHURCH PLANTING, THE BOOK OF ROMANS/BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES, INDUCTIVE BIBLE STUDY AND EXPOSITIONAL TEACHING, BASIC CARING AND COMMUNICATION ISSUES SURROUNDING PASTORING A CHURCH. Once a month we want to offer a week long block class looking at pastoral guidelines from the letters to Timothy and Titus, as well as leadership lessons from the books of Ezra and Nehemiah.
The goal of this SoM is to help prepare British men to step into the smaller towns and villages to teach the Bible expositionally and to be servants in those communities. Hopefully we will be able to get this started sometime in 2014. This depends on the Lord’s timing, the right teachers, and of course students.
CONFERENCES AND CREATIONFEST UK
The UK Pastors and Leaders Conference in York, England was such a blessing. There were many from around the UK and beyond that were deeply touched by the messages, the fellowship and the prayers. My teaching was on 1 Kings where Elijah ran from Israel’s Queen Jezebel just after a tremendous display of God’s power on Mt. Carmel. The application was especially for those UK pastors who have been in the field for many years and were discouraged with the state of their churches after so long a time. I believe you can hear it by going to the Calvary Chapel York website: http://www.calvarychapelyork.com
In August we also participated in the CreationFestUK outreach in the county of Cornwall in the South West part of England. I taught on Ephesians chapters 1 and 4 on Sunday night and Wednesday night in one of the smaller venues. Jeanne and I were also part of a panel on “Following Jesus in Your Marriage”. Here are the stats from this week long Bible and music festival:
-there were over 30 bands and artists, local and international, performing on 5 different stages
-more than 40 seminars and workshops, as well as daily morning, youth & evening `Worship and the Word` services
-more than 580 children who took part in the Creation Kids Club
-over 1700 campers who braved the British weather under canvas (or in caravans)
-an amazing team of over 250 volunteers who helped make the event possible
-plus thousands more stayed locally and visited each day.
It is wonderful to see the spiritual significance this event has had on the area of the South West of England over these eleven years. I received several unsolicited comments from Christian leaders of various denominations wanting help in bringing their towns and villages back to the Bible.
The vast majority of the churches in the UK have very small congregations (under 30 people counting children), usually with much older folks and little spiritual vitality. CreationFestUK has laid a unique foundation over the past 11 years to prepare the hearts of Christian leaders to ask for help from Calvary Chapels.
We also traveled to the Missions Conference in Millstatt, Austria which is held in the Calvary Chapel Conference Center. We had the wonderful opportunity to share with many pastors and wives from the nations of Europe. We were refreshed as well, hearing challenging messages from the keynote speakers. Being at the conference led me to be able to share in northern Italy on two successive Sundays.
THE SURRENDERED HEART RADIO PROGRAM
It has been four months since we began our internet-radio program, THE SURRENDERED HEART. God has been using this outreach to touch so many lives, not only in the UK but in other countries as well.
