About Phil

Speciality Areas: Pastoral support, Assessment: Church, Leadership Duties

Spouse: Susie

Location: Palm Desert, CA

Biography: After graduating from San Diego State University, Phil and Susie moved to Medford, Oregon where he joined the management team of a gourmet food company called Harry and David. Everything seemed ideal for the young couple. Having served as Student Body President in college along with winning many student awards, he was on the fast track in the business world. One of his primary jobs at Bear Creek Corporation was to serve as a systems analyst. He would be sent to various businesses and medical facilities to assess and review their business practices. He would then provide the owners with a thorough evaluation of their status complete with suggestions for improvement. Even though life was good for the young couple, something was very definitely missing

It was about this time that a new church sprung up in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon. As the Lord would have it, the young pastor, Jon Courson and his wife moved in right across the street from Phil and Susie. In no time at all, the missing piece was discovered and both Phil and Susie surrendered their lives to Jesus.

Within four days of salvation, Phil was already leading his first verse by verse Bible Study and seeing people saved. Then within the first 90 days of his walk with the Lord he was leading 3 different Bible Studies with large numbers of people in attendance. It never dawned on Phil that he should wait until he had more experience in the Lord before starting to lead weekly Bible Studies. He was just so excited about the Word of God he knew others needed to learn about Jesus as well.

In 1980 Applegate Christian Fellowship sent Phil and Susie to start a new work near Rogue River Oregon.  That fellowship soon grew into a healthy body of believers. Then in 1983 Phil was sent by Applegate to the city of Roseburg some two hours north to start Roseburg Christian Fellowship. The fellowship grew from an initial group of four couples to a church family in the neighborhood of 1,000 people per Sunday. Phil pastored the fellowship in Roseburg for 30 wonderful years before retiring and moving to Palm Desert California.

Currently Phil and Susie are enjoying life in the desert and being grandparents. Their son David and his family live in Prague, Czech Republic teaching at an international Christian School. Their daughter Sheri and her husband live in Sacramento, California with their two very active preschoolers. Meanwhile Phil and Susie are anxious to serve the Lord by putting their wealth of experience to work for you.
